Beyond Resignation: The Reforms India Truly Needs
Beyond Resignation: The Reforms India Truly Needs
The current campaign demanding the resignation of the minister has undoubtedly succeeded in bringing people together, and for that, I am genuinely encouraged. Seeing citizens unite around a common cause reminds me of the spirit that once fueled some of the great public movements in our nation's history. This collective energy is valuable, and it should be preserved and directed toward lasting reforms. However, I believe that focusing solely on the resignation of one individual may not achieve the long-term change that many of us seek. A resignation, by itself, does not address the deeper structural issues that allow corruption, inefficiency, and division to persist. If our goal is to build a stronger and more just India, we must focus on institutions rather than individuals. In my view, two areas deserve the highest priority: judicial reform and media reform. A fast, accessible, and efficient judiciary would ensure that allegations of corruption, abuse of power, or misconduct are investigated and resolved within months rather than years. When accountability is swift and certain, public officials and powerful interests are far less likely to act without fear of consequences. Equally important is a responsible and independent media ecosystem. The media plays a central role in shaping public awareness, encouraging informed debate, and holding power accountable. A healthier media environment can help reduce misinformation, discourage divisive narratives, and strengthen civic consciousness among citizens. If we can successfully advocate for meaningful improvements in these two pillarsโthe judiciary and the mediaโwe will create conditions where transparency, accountability, and national progress can flourish naturally. Rather than concentrating all our efforts on changing one person, we should work toward strengthening the institutions that shape the future of the nation for generations to come.
